HMN - VOCATIONAL ADVICE SERVICE
17/06/2010
Herts Mind Network has now extended its successful Vocational Advice Service from Watford to Hemel Hempstead. We have two employed Vocational Advisors (VA’s) and 3 part-time volunteers or sessional workers on the project. Kerry O’Dell and Charlie Beck are employed at Watford, where the project has been running for 18 months and Charlie has now taken on the exciting expansion of the project into the Hemel Hempstead area.
The project utilises the "Individual Placement and Support" (IPS) model to support service users in accessing training, education, voluntary and/or paid employment. The Vocational Advisor supports the service user to access opportunities according to what they want, so if someone is interested in becoming an electrician then we’ll help them access the training in order to achieve this. Most importantly, the support is open ended and will continue for as long as the service user feels it is necessary.
The Vocational Advisors have links with local training providers and are working towards linking in with local business. Therefore, they can help secure work or course tasters in a chosen area, giving the opportunity to try out something new and gain invaluable experience, possibly leading to paid employment or long term study.
The Vocational Service also has close links with statutory and other voluntary mental health services ensuring continuity of care and encouraging the view that anyone can work or study in their chosen area with the right support.
If you are interested in accessing our Vocational Service please contact us on
08444 772 212.
