Purpose of role
To support the Step2Skills team with running their range of training courses. The volunteer roles within this service are centred on supporting the tutor for that course. In face-to-face provision, this can include helping to set up the room ahead of learners arriving to supporting learners who are struggling with the course material.
On our online courses, we may ask a volunteer to moderate the text chat functions whilst the course is going on so that the tutor won’t miss any questions. Supporting the online chat room may involve flagging any questions, responding to comments, engaging with polls and handouts, encouraging learners and checking in with quieter attendees.
Alongside aiding the tutor in keeping the course running smoothly, it is also encouraged that you will join in with the group discussions and activities. As these courses function within a group setting, usually with a class size of 6-10 learners for face-to-face courses and up to 15 learners in our webinars and can run from 4-6 weeks in length at various times of the day it is important for you to be able to attend as close to every session as possible.
Time commitment
Our courses are run between 4-6 weekly sessions for a maximum of 3 hours per session. Time and hours may vary. We ideally are looking for a volunteer who would be able to attend the whole course (or at least most of it), but any help would be appreciated if you can only support for 2 or 3 sessions.
